Superintendent Bryan Burton and staff told the Caddo Parish School Board on June 3 that the district has increased budget support and sought grants to improve the music program, including proposals to obtain more instruments and add professional development for music teachers.
Burton said district staff convened band directors to identify needs and have written a grant to add instruments to schools. He said the budget includes increased funds for music programs and that the district is continuing professional development and the adoption of a music curriculum.
Board members and the superintendent noted that some school band instruments are in poor condition and that better instruments would improve performance and student opportunities for scholarships. No specific new funding allocation or approval for equipment purchases was adopted at the work session; staff said they will continue pursuing grants and program development.
