Hundreds testify in favor of naming Huntington High gym for Coach Mac Jones

Dr. Antonio T. Dixon Sr., another speaker, told the board Jones's career spans nearly 40 years and includes more than 750 wins. "He has given almost 40 years of his life to Caddo Parish Public Schools," Dixon said, adding that there are more than 100 statements of support from former players and community leaders. Supporters said the coach's contributions extend beyond wins to mentorship and college placement for players.
Board members explained the public hearing is the informational step required before the board may consider a naming resolution at a subsequent meeting. The board's attorney outlined the process: hearings are held in the month before an item is brought to a vote. No formal action was taken on June 17.
The superintendent noted the community turnout and thanked speakers for their comments. The item will return to the board for a vote at the next scheduled meeting, where board members will have the opportunity to approve or reject official naming language.
