The Planning Commission on Sept. 4 approved a preliminary site plan for a convenience store and gas station on Florida Boulevard while the applicant continued to finalize state Department of Transportation access approvals.
Tom Murray, representing the project, said the site will host a branded Shell convenience store and restaurant-style offerings; he told commissioners the developer is completing a DOTD traffic study and is seeking limited right-in/right-out access for two drives. “We’re in the middle of...wrapping up our traffic studies for approval with DOTD,” Murray said.
Planning and engineering staff confirmed their comments had been addressed and recommended moving the site plan forward. Commissioners praised the applicant’s retail experience and recognized the project as a convenience-store model already operating in nearby parishes.
One commissioner asked the applicant to consider other fuel brands; Murray said brand selection is under negotiation with his partner, and the store’s food offerings would include a regional boudin supplier.
The commission voted to approve the site-plan action to advance the project; final permits remain contingent on DOTD access approval and completion of required engineering materials.
Outcome: Preliminary site-plan approval granted; applicant to obtain DOTD access approval and finalize engineering details before permits are issued.
