The overdoses proclamation said the parish has recorded 389 overdose deaths since 2020, including 160 attributed to fentanyl, and that parish government buildings will be lit in purple on Aug. 31 to honor victims and raise awareness. The recovery-month proclamation called for increased access to prevention, treatment and recovery supports and urged community engagement to reduce stigma.
Parish officials said the proclamations are part of an opioid abatement and public‑education effort and cited ongoing work by first responders, health providers and recovery advocates.
