The Livingston Parish Council on Aug. 14 introduced two ordinances to acquire properties under FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) projects and set public hearings for Aug. 28.
The first introduction, proposed ordinance 25-14, would acquire property at 25878 New Hope Avenue in Denham Springs (homeowner Paul Douglas Cormier) under HMGP Project FEMA-4277-DR-LA-0131. The second, proposed ordinance 25-15, would acquire property at 15945 Cypress Point Lane in French Settlement (homeowners John Peltier Jr. and Nicole Peltier) under HMGP Project FEMA-4277-DR-LA-0124. The clerk read both introductions into the record and the council moved them to the August 28 public hearing docket.
Council members moved the measures forward without substantive debate at the introduction stage. The ordinances, if adopted after public hearings and required acquisition processes, would allow the parish to accept hazard-mitigation grant funds to acquire and clear repetitive-loss or severely damaged homes under FEMA program rules.
