Committee members reported on the sales tax renewal effort and discussed timing for placing two measures before voters: the capital improvements sales tax that sunsets in 2026 and the half‑cent transportation sales tax.
A committee representative said the group met earlier in the month and, at the first meeting, ‘‘discussed the importance of putting both sales tax on the ballot for April 2026,’’ because that timing would coincide with a mayoral election and the capital improvements renewal. The committee scheduled a follow‑up meeting for July 11 and intends to review emergency response needs and smaller park projects at that session. A larger meeting in September will focus on transportation priorities and public outreach.
Committee members discussed whether the committee should formally endorse a ballot placement; Sandy Lucy, who chairs the committee, said a recommendation could be appropriate later in the process but that it was too early to take a formal endorsement. A member noted the half‑cent transportation sales tax has generated roughly $38,000,000 since inception in 2005 and said that funding is critical to local road and intersection work.
The committee will continue public meetings and solicit presentations from emergency services and park project proponents. No formal vote to place measures on the ballot was recorded at the June 30 meeting.
