Committee members discussed plans to prepare voter materials and outreach for two separate half-cent sales tax renewals: one for capital improvements and one for transportation. The committee said staff will reconvene Sept. 12 at 11:30 a.m. to begin detailed work on presenting transportation needs to voters and that meetings in October and November will refine the proposals and public messaging. Staff noted the regional TIP (Transportation Improvement Program) prepared by East West Gateway and said the TIP documents projects through 2029; committee members said that TIP information will be used to show how local projects rely on the sales tax match funding.
Committee members emphasized the local dependence on the sales taxes for roads, sidewalks, curb-and-gutter projects and economic development, and said they expect the public to be receptive given prior renewals and visible local improvements. No formal action was taken at the Aug. 25 meeting; the half-cent committee will present a more detailed plan in September and set additional meeting dates to finalize outreach and project lists.
