Airport runway extension moves toward FAA approval; hangar vacancy advertised

Airport staff told the committee Aug. 25 that a contract award for the runway extension project has been identified (contractor KGU named in the meeting) but construction work will not begin until the Federal Aviation Administration grants final approval, which staff said they expect in the coming weeks. The project includes extending the runway and taxiway by slightly less than 400 feet; staff said the extension should increase the airport’s ability to serve additional aircraft types but will not move the field into the next FAA airport classification.
Staff reported hangar occupancy remains high overall but that a climate-controlled hangar adjacent to the terminal will be advertised; the airport issued a request for proposals to existing lessees with first-right consideration and expects responses in mid-September. Staff said summer months see higher activity at the airport and that counts include touch-and-go training flights as well as full-stop arrivals.
No formal action was taken by the committee; staff presented the status update and sought no vote.
