Highway 47 corridor study advances; funding and delivery options remain open

Committee members received an update Aug. 25 on the Highway 47 corridor study and related projects. Staff said the study team has held community advisory group sessions and will hold a public meeting in early October; a third community advisory meeting concluded the week of the committee meeting. The study aims to inform design and preconstruction steps for a corridor project that currently has construction scheduled in fiscal year 2028.
County and MoDOT staff said the study remains in progress and that project delivery decisions — including whether the work will follow conventional bid-build procurement or move forward as a design-build contract — remain unresolved. The committee was told project delivery options affect scope and bidding strategy and that MoDOT and county staff expect to have the necessary decisions by December. Staff also reported a pending 50/50 grant application for Highway 47 improvements; that application review is expected in September–October and has been delayed while the corridor study concludes because project delivery details affect the funding package.
Committee members discussed traffic volume concerns on Highway 47 and noted construction is still several years away, but staff recommended continuing outreach and keeping the project “live” in public discussion. The committee also received brief updates on a separate 50/50 project — the Oldenburg entrance widening — where Show Me Fiber has relocated fiber and final guardrail and grading remain before project closeout.
No formal votes were taken. Staff urged continued coordination with East West Gateway and MoDOT on the regional TIP, and to prepare for public outreach in October.
