The Astoria City Council on Sept. 2 authorized purchase of a patrol-rated Dodge Durango and related emergency equipment at a combined cost of $69,527.15.
City manager Spence said the department’s 2018 Ford Explorer has more than 108,000 miles and is due for replacement. The recommended procurement used the State Cooperative Purchasing Program. The base vehicle price recorded during the motion was $44,627.70; related equipment installation and radio/lighting costs totaled $24,899.45, for a total of $69,527.15. The expense had been included in the FY 2025‑26 budget, Spence said.
Why it matters: replacing a high‑mileage patrol vehicle preserves fleet reliability for public safety response and aligns with budgeted capital replacements.
The motion to approve the purchase was moved and seconded and carried on roll call. Council recorded the votes as Aye.
Ending: The Police Department will arrange vehicle outfitting and put the new patrol unit into service after installation of emergency equipment.
