Nixa council amends code to reflect state changes to sunshine law

The Nixa City Council on Aug. 26 approved an ordinance amending city code sections that implement the state’s open‑records (sunshine) law, city staff said.
City Attorney Nick Woodman presented Council Bill No. 2025-27, explaining the recent state legislative session and the governor approved changes to how long the city must wait to regard a records request as abandoned. “This bill, if approved, would codify those requirements into our code,” Woodman said. Staff recommended approval so the city’s code aligns with the new state law.
Woodman told the council the amendments modify Chapter 2, Article 5, Sections 2‑162 and 2‑164 of the Nixa City Code to reflect the state changes. The council held a public hearing with no speakers and then adopted the ordinance on second reading by roll call.
The amendments are intended to ensure the city’s internal procedures for handling public‑records requests comply with the updated state statute; no other changes to public‑records policy were discussed at the meeting.
