The Nixa City Council on Aug. 26 approved annexation of approximately 4.29 acres of Missouri Department of Transportation right‑of‑way along West Highway 14, city staff said.
Scott Godby, director of planning and development, told the council MoDOT required a specific process for the right‑of‑way annexation and that staff followed the necessary steps. Godby said MoDOT is likely to replace the old population sign with a new sign and that the annexation will allow the city to move the sign closer to the new Nixa welcome sign; both planning and zoning and staff recommended approval.
Council members voted to approve the second reading of Council Bill No. 2025-26. There were no public speakers on the annexation during the hearing and the measure passed on roll call.
No conditions or additional city obligations were attached at the meeting; city staff indicated the action pertains to right‑of‑way control and sign location.
