Webster Groves Green Space Commission elects Jeannie Klockner after commissioner resigns

The Webster Groves Green Space Commission voted to install Jeannie Klockner as chair after the commission learned that member Jerry Pinkner had resigned.

The change came at the start of the meeting when a commission member reported, "Jerry actually, just sent his resignation and to step off the commission." The commission then moved to elect a new chair. Jeannie Klockner told the group she was "pleased and honored to be asked to serve in this capacity and [looks] forward to furthering [her] work and doing good things." Members approved Klockner's selection by a show-of-hands; the chair counted "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 in favor. Any against?" and recorded no opposing votes.

Commission chair Carrie Coyne, who said she would transition to the vice chair role to support the incoming chair, said the hand-raise method was a practical way to confirm the selection while meeting virtually. Klockner will assume the formal duties of chair at the commission's next meeting, the group said.

At the meeting's opening, the commission also moved to approve its November meeting minutes. Liz James made the motion and Rory Bielick seconded it; the record in the meeting indicates the minutes were put forward for approval.

The commission is a volunteer advisory body that coordinates public events and programs such as Arbor Day, Trees of Distinction, and community tree stewardship. The leadership change will carry through the commission's calendar, including planning for the upcoming Arbor Day activities and subcommittee work the group discussed later in the meeting.

The commission scheduled its next regular meeting for Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. at the recreation center; Klockner and other members indicated they would use the intervening weeks to transfer responsibilities and plan subcommittee meetings.
