The Board of Public Works approved a $25,908 proposal from Level 9 to replace an HVAC unit at the treatment plant that cools the main motor-control (MCC) room.
Staff explained the plant is 16 years old and several HVAC units are obsolete; parts are no longer available and the city has been "band-aiding" equipment. The unit serving the MCC room — which houses variable-frequency drives and controls for the headworks building — is out and currently being temp-controlled with box fans, staff said. "This one's currently out and this one is one of our most important ones. This one actually cools the, what they call the MCC Room," a staff member said.
Staff said the replacement was budgeted at $40,000 but the accepted proposal came in at roughly $25,908. Board members approved the proposal and directed staff to forward the contract to the city council for processing. Staff said three additional HVAC units at the plant will be replaced over time as they fail and as the budget allows.
