Public Works staff asked the Baker City Council on Aug. 12 to authorize two equipment purchases that had been included in the adopted budget: a 2025 Caterpillar compact excavator procured through Sourcewell and a 10‑yard dump truck. Staff explained the city’s existing compact excavator was smaller and lacked the tonnage capacity needed for larger alley and pavement projects, and the new unit would reduce service disruption and future pavement work.

Concerning the dump truck, staff said availability for used units can be limited and recommended approval of the truck purchase not to exceed the budgeted amount of $100,000. Councilors moved, seconded and voted to approve the purchases during the meeting.

No amendments to the purchase authorization were recorded. Staff will proceed with procurement consistent with the motion and budget limitations.
