Council to send Saint Louis region hazard mitigation plan to full council for adoption

City council workshop — City staff told the council June 2 that the final draft of the five-year Saint Louis Hazard Mitigation Plan, produced through East West Gateway, is complete and should be adopted so the city remains eligible for mitigation grant funding.

The plan covers a five-year period and, staff said, must be adopted if the city intends to apply for hazard mitigation grants over the next five years. "What that is is there's a 5 year hazard mitigation plan with Saint Louis Region through East West Gateway that is completed every 5 years," a staff member told the council. "Myself and Charles started it last summer. It was due on September, and we just got the final draft from East West Gateway."

Council moved the item forward to the full council for formal consideration. A council member made a motion "to send to council," which was seconded; the presiding officer called for those in favor and recorded the ayes. The motion to move the plan to the council passed.

Why this matters: adoption of the regional hazard mitigation plan is a common prerequisite for municipalities that want to be eligible for federal and state hazard-mitigation grant programs. Staff told the council the plan's adoption would preserve the city's ability to apply for such grants during the plan period.
