The Sweet Home Health Committee on Sept. 3 recapped a recent health fair that organizers said drew more than 40 vendor tables and strong use of services, including mental‑health outreach and naloxone distribution. Committee members said turnout and vendor engagement were roughly on par with the prior year, and several vendors dispersed all of the naloxone they brought.
Committee Chair Ray said the fair was moved indoors at the last minute because of weather and concluded with a quick cleanup: “every vendor for whatever took the lead, they just started picking up after themselves,” which reduced teardown time. The committee’s staff member who coordinated the event said the mental‑health table reported more than 200 people asking for information.
Why it matters: Committee members said the fair reaches residents who lack other access to care and creates cross‑referrals between providers. Members also said the event gave the committee an opportunity to update its community resource list.
Committee members and vendors described several operational takeaways. A committee member requested a complete vendor list; staff said a list exists and would be distributed to the committee. Organizers noted one agency on the list did not attend, while some vendors arrived without prior registration and were accommodated.
Members recommended adding modest on‑site medical supplies and a staged cleaning kit for future fairs after a minor medical incident at this year’s event. One committee member suggested the committee itself should staff a table at future fairs to raise awareness about the committee’s role and the resource list. A committee member also praised the mayor and a local high‑school principal for personally thanking vendors.
Discussion only: Members debated whether turnout was visually lower while usage metrics remained steady and discussed outreach to Linn County health services and other regional providers who have begun attending. There was no formal motion tied to the recap.
Ending: Staff said she would circulate the vendor list to committee members and that organizers will plan modest first‑aid staging and consider a committee table for next year.
