Committee members reported on two recent community events and ongoing festival planning at the Aug. 20 meeting. The committee said the maps they distributed at the health fair received positive feedback and could help measure outreach if the team precounts maps on the table. "Every time we hand out the maps, we always get compliments on them," a committee member said.
Members said the health fair moved indoors because of rain and that volunteers adapted by using an activity gym; giveaways included pencils, sharpeners and items for school backpacks. A committee member said the maps directed some out-of-town visitors to Sankey Park.
On the harvest festival, the committee said ads ran in local papers to promote the festival and the chili and pie contests; organizers are still taking pie contest sign-ups and said they typically get many entries near the event date. The committee discussed shade for the pie and chili booths and whether to order a larger tent to reduce the number of pop-ups volunteers must set up. The committee confirmed that festival fundraising this year will support Weddell Bridge.
No formal votes were taken; event leads will continue logistics planning and ordering supplies before the festival.
