City manager gives updates: new police facility open, roundabout and traffic projects nearing completion

City Manager Keith Bukowski updated council on several operations and capital projects, including emergency-response coordination related to the Flat Fire and progress on transportation and public-safety facilities.
Bukowski thanked responders and staff working on the Flat Fire and said the city continues daily fire briefings with county partners. He announced the new police facility opened at 111 Northwest Teague and warned that the former downtown station is no longer the active facility for public safety services.
On traffic projects, Bukowski said the Badger Canal Roundabout near Ridgeview will open soon and may overlap slightly with the start of school. The city also installed a four-way stop at Nineteenth and Hemlock after an interdepartmental safety review; police will monitor compliance during the adjustment period. Regarding the intersection at Fifth and Highland, Bukowski said staff plan to begin design work proactively so the city can stay ahead if reimbursement agreements with the state are secured and to avoid delays if the Park and Rec facility opens as scheduled next summer.
Councilors and staff thanked responders and noted ongoing coordination with county emergency and parks partners. Bukowski said staff remain in contact with the sister city manager and county lieutenants to coordinate evacuations and response staffing where needed.
