Johnson recommended immediate steps the city could take, including replacing public trash bins in parks and public spaces with multi-bin units that separate recyclables, paper and rubbish to reduce contamination and encourage composting behavior. He cited an observation that in parts of British Columbia he visited, province-wide composting is routine and suggested Redmond could follow similar practices.
Council did not take action on the public comment request during this meeting. Staff did not provide a formal response on next steps during the session; the suggestion was recorded as part of public input for council consideration.
