Mayor Fitch told the council that after a year of review, next year the city will allow legal fireworks on July 4 only, and only while the local fire district's fire-season determination is in effect. "Next year, there'll be legal fireworks on July 4, but July 4 only while the fire season is in effect, and that'll be following the fire district's time frame," the mayor said, noting the district's season commonly runs May through October.
The mayor also referenced plans for a significant July 4, 2026 event to mark the country's 200th birthday and said more information would be released later.
Council did not adopt a new ordinance at the meeting; the announcement described staff and administration policy planning and the intent to follow the fire district's time frame for allowable discharge dates. Further rule details and any implementing regulations were not presented at the session.
