Board approves $65,000 Verkada licensing contract for new police station

Branson Police Chief Schmidt told the board the licensing covers cameras, access controls and intercoms and preserves warranty and firmware support through Verkada; Everon is the vendor that performed installation and handles licensing. He said the city plans to pay the $65,000 in full from the building project fund rather than budgeting the expense across five years.
Why it matters: the contract authorizes use of cloud-based security and access-control services at the new station and covers ongoing maintenance, software updates and warranty support. Chief Schmidt said vendors agreed to hold last year’s price if the city approved the contract at this meeting.
Chief Schmidt said the Verkada system functions like an integrated suite: cameras, building access, intercoms and related services. He described the contract as a licensing arrangement necessary to maintain the equipment and access vendor warranties, and recommended approval. Board members asked whether paying up front yielded a different rate; staff responded the funding was available from bond proceeds and paying now avoids future budgeting for the expense.
The board approved the contract on a motion for immediate final reading, and the final roll-call vote was 6-0. The police department will manage the account and coordinate future maintenance and warranty services through Everon and Verkada.
