On artificial intelligence, members described two policy needs: (1) clarify acceptable instructional uses of AI tools, and (2) address academic integrity where AI could be used to produce work that a student then submits as their own. The committee discussed whether AI should be addressed through the district’s plagiarism/academic-integrity policy or via a standalone responsible-use policy and agreed that consistent, districtwide guidance for teachers and students is needed.
Outcome and next steps: staff and two committee leads will prepare prework for summer meetings, invite administrators to a fall discussion on dress code, place the cell-phone item on the agenda after the June legislative votes, and draft responsible-AI parameters for committee consideration. No policy changes were adopted at the meeting.
