Applicant Laura Foley said the change would honor Penn and Teller’s 50-year partnership and noted they have supported local nonprofits and events; she said the addressing division had suggested using “Court” because the segment is a cul‑de‑sac. Foley said Boyd Gaming (owner of an adjacent billboard) had provided a letter of agreement. “This year, they are celebrating their fiftieth anniversary of working together,” Foley said.
Multiple speakers — including entertainer Andrew Ryan, longtime Penn and Teller employee Steven Doctors and Antiocho Carrillo of AFAN — spoke in support, citing the pair’s philanthropic work and local legacy. Kelly Washam spoke for The Rio and its owner Dreamscape Companies in support. Commissioners noted the street has very low traffic counts and no life‑safety objections from public works or fire. Commissioner Stone said the street’s average daily traffic is “basically 0” and voiced support; the commission approved the name change to Penn and Teller Court.
The action was recorded as final unless appealed to the Board of County Commissioners. The addressing division recommendation to use “Court” rather than “Drive” was accepted at the hearing.
