The commission on June 4 discussed a request to waive reapplication fees for a homestead operation at 1290 West Wind Road after part of the earlier application was denied Nov. 20, 2024.
Applicants said the denied portion of the prior filing concerned allowing customers to come on-site to buy eggs hatched on the property and to hold supervised “cow cuddle” sessions; they asked the commission to waive approximately $1,300 in application fees for a new filing.
One applicant told commissioners, “It was devastating for us to get denied our egg stand,” and described completing multiple regulatory steps already, including business-licensing preparations, inspection by the Nevada Department of Agriculture and animal-handler permits. Commissioners expressed empathy and several said they supported staff pursuing a fee waiver given the cost and the applicant’s prior work on permits.
Commissioners did not take a formal vote to forgive the fee during the hearing; instead the body provided direction to county staff — described on the record as “just providing direction” — to explore waiving the fees and to confer with the applicant about next steps so the applicants can file again if appropriate.
Staff and applicants noted that several state and county regulatory inspections had been completed and that the county would still need to process any new application through the usual land-use and licensing workflows if it is filed.
