Gautier recognizes Mayor’s Youth Council and Amazing Shake finalists; students present community-improvement proposals

The Gautier City Council recognized the Mayor’s Youth Council and allowed the top three finalists from the Amazing Shake youth competition to present their community-improvement proposals during the June 20 meeting.
The mayor and council praised the mayor’s youth council for volunteer work such as litter pickup, packing boxes for the needy and taking field trips to the state capital to learn about government. The council thanked the youth council coordinator and the staff sponsors who support the program. The mayor called the youth leaders to the dais and invited the top three Amazing Shake finalists to present their PowerPoint summaries to the council.
Students’ proposals included Chloe Cugion’s “Amazing Shake” presentation promoting girls’ recreational sports and community recreation, and Adeline Brewer’s “Coastal Adventures,” a concept for local tours, conservation education and tourism-related business growth. Other finalists and participants mentioned parks, biking trails, community centers and a community pool as ways to draw families and visitors and encourage local spending.
Council members told the students the city is listening and that some concepts are already underway through existing projects. The mayor encouraged continued youth involvement and thanked parents and sponsors. Council members requested photos with the students after the presentations and noted graduation events that limited some attendees.
