Ybarra said the neighborhood has suffered "excessive noise, loss of privacy, increased traffic and safety for our families, light pollution, and a general decline in our quality of life" tied to activity near 6340/6370 Pioneer Way and that approval of the permit with extended hours (up to 11 p.m.) would exacerbate those problems. "Approving this permit would only exacerbate these issues, further impacting on the well‑being of our peaceful enjoyment of our homes," she said.
Ybarra said the facility currently opens only until 6 p.m. and that extended hours would worsen impacts; she told commissioners that five houses in her area have been rented out and that neighbors are concerned about people standing outside and looking into yards and balconies. She further told the commission she had submitted a complaint alleging the business did not appear in online licensing records: "They're currently running that business without, from what I can see, an actual license online. So I've submitted a complaint," Ybarra said.
Staff earlier noted that the applicant had requested that item 5 be held to the July 1 Planning Commission meeting, a request made by the applicant and recorded in the briefing. Ybarra urged the commission not to accept further continuances and to deny the application in the interest of preserving neighborhood health, safety and quality of life.
