The Clark County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday introduced a series of ordinances to update local building and safety codes and set public hearings for Tuesday, July 15, at 10 a.m.

The measures would delete and replace multiple chapters in Clark County Code and adopt by reference the 2024 International Building Code, the 2024 International Existing Building Code, the 2024 International Residential Code, the 2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, the 2024 Uniform Mechanical Code, the 2024 Uniform Plumbing Code, the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code and the 2023 National Electrical Code, each with Southern Nevada amendments where referenced. The ordinances also establish penalties for code violations.

The package was presented as a group by county staff during the commission’s introduction-of-ordinances segment; the chair introduced each ordinance and set the public hearing date and time. County officials said the updates adopt the most recent national model codes and incorporate Southern Nevada amendments, and that public hearings will provide an opportunity for builders, contractors and residents to comment.

Why it matters: adopting updated model codes changes technical requirements for new construction, renovations, swimming pools, mechanical and plumbing systems, and electrical work across Clark County. It also affects permitting and enforcement because several of the ordinances explicitly establish penalties for violations.

Details announced in the commission meeting:
- Item 34 would replace Chapter 22.04 with a new Building Code of Clark County adopting the 2024 International Building Code and Southern Nevada amendments.
- Item 35 would replace Chapter 22.11 with the 2024 International Existing Building Code and Southern Nevada amendments.
- Item 36 would replace Chapter 22.005 with the 2024 International Residential Code and Southern Nevada amendments.
- Item 37 would replace Chapter 22.2 with the 2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code and Southern Nevada amendments.
- Item 38 would replace Chapter 25.04 with an Electrical Code adopting the 2023 National Electrical Code and Southern Nevada amendments.
- Item 39 would replace Chapter 25.16 with the 2024 Uniform Mechanical Code and Southern Nevada amendments.
- Item 40 would replace Chapter 25.08 with the 2024 Uniform Plumbing Code and Southern Nevada amendments.
- Item 41 would replace Chapter 25.2 with the International Energy Conservation Code and Southern Nevada amendments.

No ordinance was adopted at the introduction stage; each was introduced and a public hearing was scheduled for July 15 at 10 a.m. County staff will present the full text and redline versions at those hearings and accept public testimony before any final vote.

The commission did not vote to adopt the codes at this meeting. Interested parties can review the proposed drafts and the redline copies made available by staff ahead of the July 15 hearings.
