The City Council approved a temporary traffic order on Aug. 25 to close portions of Pleasant Street on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, to accommodate Halloween trick‑or‑treating and reduce vehicle congestion.
Councilor Hoffman presented the request, noting Pleasant Street is historically among the busiest streets in the city during Halloween and that the closure would make the event safer for families. The council approved a closure beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m., a half hour before and after the local trick‑or‑treat hours (5 p.m.–8 p.m.).
The temporary order defines the closed portion as the segment from just north of Harvard Street to just north of Pleasant Street School; staff told the council the street would remain open to local traffic only where specified.
The council adopted the traffic order by vote; all votes recorded were six in the affirmative.
Ending: The closure is scheduled for Oct. 31, 2025, with details to be implemented by city traffic and public safety staff to ensure pedestrian safety during peak trick‑or‑treat hours.
