MERRIMACK, N.H. — The Town Council on Thursday accepted three separate donations for town services and conservation:
- A 2011 inflatable boat (valued at $750) and 2011 trailer (valued at $1,500) from the Nashua Fire Department to Merrimack Fire Rescue for training and backup use. - Two SPYPOINT Leji cellular trail cameras (valued at about $60.35 each) donated by resident Jake Bowen and accepted by the Conservation Commission for use at Sklar conservation land to help document and deter vandalism and motorized use. - Camp-scholarship donations: $5,000 from Merrimack Friends & Families and $1,000 from the Merrimack Lions Club to the Parks & Recreation Department (in collaboration with the Welfare Department) to fund camp scholarships for families in need.
The council approved each donation by unanimous vote and authorized the town manager to sign paperwork when needed. Conservation commissioners said the cameras will be monitored by members of the Conservation Commission (or a designated liaison) and asked that camera locations not be publicly broadcast to preserve their deterrence value. Fire-rescue staff said the donated boat and trailer will be used for training and as a backup asset; the department noted existing motors will fit the donated hull.
Why it matters: The donations provide low-cost ways to expand training capacity, protect conservation lands from vandalism, and help local families pay for summer camp.
What the council did: Accepted the donations pursuant to RSA 31:95-e and Charter Article VIII § 15; motions passed 5-0-0.
