MERRIMACK, N.H. — The Town Council voted 5-0 Thursday to withdraw $75,000 from the Solid Waste Disposal Capital Reserve Fund to accelerate the planned purchase of a skid-steer loader and replacement tires for use at the transfer station.
Town staff said one of two skid steers in the transfer-station fleet was slated for replacement next year but required repairs estimated at more than $17,000, making replacement the more economical choice. The transfer station foreman, Patrick Davis, and public-works staff told the council the facility needs two machines to keep up with daily material handling and that the tires must be a specialty type to avoid premature wear.
Staff said recent bids for comparable machines ran from about $65,000 to $75,000 and that the $75,000 estimate reflects the machine plus required special tires. The money will be taken from the capital reserve and the town will solicit bids per procurement rules.
