MERRIMACK, N.H. — The Town Council approved a $210,945 withdrawal from the highway capital reserve fund Thursday to purchase a replacement 2025 International dump truck and snow-plow outfitting under state contract.
Finance and public-works staff recommended buying a 2025 cab/chassis from Allegiance Trucks for $115,950 and contracting HP Fairfield for up-fitting (dump body, plows, strobes and other equipment) for $112,995, with a trade-in allowance of $18,000 reducing the net withdrawal to $210,945. The purchase uses the state procurement contract to secure competitive pricing, staff said.
Public-works staff told the council the truck aligns with the department’s fleet standardization (all International models) to simplify maintenance and parts inventory. The truck manufacturer estimates build time of three to four months and final outfitting thereafter; staff said the vehicle should be in service by about January 2026.
Why it matters: The purchase is part of routine fleet replacement to maintain winter-plow capacity and reduce maintenance overhead through fleet standardization. Councilors asked about contract terms, state-bid pricing and delivery timing before approving the withdrawal and authorizing the town manager to sign purchase documents.
What the council did: Motion to approve $210,945 withdrawal from the Highway Capital Reserve Fund to purchase the replacement truck and authorize the town manager to sign necessary documents; motion passed 5-0-0.
