GAUTIER, Mississippi — The Gautier City Council on Aug. 5 voted to authorize removal of broken equipment and vehicles from city inventory after staff explained the status of several units, including one that had been paid by insurance and another held for parts or disposal.

City Clerk Teresa Montgomery summarized the item, saying the list included older equipment and vehicles the city no longer uses. Councilman Minor asked whether vehicles would be sold, scrapped or repurposed; staff explained that one 2024 Silverado had been covered by insurance (the insurer paid the city and the vehicle could be retained or turned over to the insurer depending on the claim) and that other units are sometimes used for training by the fire department or sold for scrap when appropriate.

Councilman Minor moved to authorize removal; Councilman Jackson seconded and the motion carried. Staff said the city follows standard practices for disposal, including offering usable items to other departments for training and recycling scrap metal when applicable.
