Milford Planning Board members on Tuesday voted to continue reinitiated case SP2025‑01, a proposal from Choice Property Management LLC for a new trash removal office, headquarters and truck parking facility, to the board’s Aug. 19 meeting. The motion was moved by Andrew Cinelli and seconded by Janet Langdell; the chair announced the motion passed with all votes recorded as aye.
The continuance covers the project’s two‑acre Phase 1 area and was taken after staff and board members reviewed an attorney’s request for more time. Town staff noted the request mentioned potential alternative sites that, if chosen, might prompt the applicant to file a new application rather than extend the current one.
The board emphasized that a short continuance was appropriate but that officials were not prepared to automatically grant any further six‑month delay, particularly if the applicant shifts to a different location. Planning Board member Susan Robinson said staff should advise applicants that a change of site would likely require a new filing. Planning Board vice chair Janet Langdell noted a five‑day waiver referenced in the applicant’s materials and asked staff to confirm timing and notice requirements.
The vote Tuesday was limited to scheduling the continuance; the board did not make a substantive decision on the site plan or technical conditions. Town Planner Terry Dolan and Director of Community Development Camille Patterson were present and will assist the applicant with procedural guidance ahead of the August hearing.
Why it matters: The applicant proposes a commercial use (trash removal office and truck parking) that could affect traffic, abutter notification and permit timelines; the board’s warning about not granting an open‑ended delay signals closer scrutiny of future extension requests. The item will return to the board on Aug. 19 for further review unless the applicant submits a new application for a different location.
Background: The case was first heard at the June 17 meeting and was reinitiated as SP2025‑01. On Tuesday the board reaffirmed its prior practice that a major change of location typically requires a new application and re‑notification of abutters.
Next steps: The application remains scheduled for the Aug. 19 Planning Board meeting. Staff will notify the applicant of the board’s position on additional continuances and confirm any waiver or notice deadlines.
