Town staff and selectmen discussed Veterans Day plans Aug. 25 and agreed to coordinate a pancake breakfast chosen by the American Legion, set for Nov. 11, with a morning ceremony at the legion post.
Beth Hosack, administrative specialist for the town, said the American Legion has recommended a pancake breakfast in recent years and that organizers typically start serving around 8:30 or 9 a.m. so attendees can join the Legion's flag ceremony afterwards. Hosack said she will contact Legion leadership, including Commander Calvin, to confirm format and timing.
Selectmen discussed indoor and broadcast options in case of November weather and suggested using the town library or another venue that can be taped and rebroadcast for residents who cannot attend in person. The board also noted the Lions Club and other volunteer groups have been key helpers in the kitchen and on logistics in past years.
Logistics under discussion include the event start time (last year began about 8:30–9 a.m.), use of Post 34 for the ceremony, police assistance for parking, and printing notes from prior years to guide operations. The goal, officials said, is to follow the Legion's lead, provide a well‑run morning meal for veterans and allow the Legion to host its own ceremony afterward.
No formal vote was required; staff will reconfirm the Legion's preference, set the breakfast start time and coordinate volunteers and police support as needed.
