Council accepts $12,000 state grant for EMS warm-zone rescue task-force training

The Bedford Town Council voted 6-0 on May 21 to accept a $12,000 grant from the New Hampshire Department of Safety to fund a Warm Zone Rescue Task Force training program for emergency medical services personnel.
Captain Tierney of the Bedford Fire Department presented the grant request during a public hearing, describing the training as an active-threat focused ‘‘rescue task force’’ course run by the state fire academy. Captain Tierney told the council the class will include about 16 fire personnel and four law-enforcement participants and start June 25 at the Peter Woodbury School; the grant will cover overtime and backfill costs so firefighter staffing is not reduced while personnel attend the course.
The council accepted the grant under the statutory acceptance language referenced in the public hearing (the transcript cited state grant authority). Councilor Michael Strand moved the acceptance; Councilor Becky Soule seconded. The vote was unanimous.
Town officials stressed the training carries no tax impact and described it as a cost-effective way to obtain specialized active-threat response training. The council authorized the town manager and fire chief to execute any documents necessary to accept and administer the grant.
