Flagler County commissioners on Monday reviewed applicants to the county’s Airport Advisory Board, raised concerns about heavy flight‑school representation among applicants, and directed staff to update the airport rules and procedures written in 2008 and to prepare a business plan to accompany an airport master plan update.
A commissioner said three applicants have flight‑school affiliations and expressed concern about stacking the advisory panel with industry representatives; another commissioner noted that two of those applicants do not live in Flagler County. County staff said residency was not a stated requirement in the appointment resolution. The board discussed whether representation from tenants, pilots and nearby communities should be balanced on the seven‑member advisory panel.
Separately the board reached consensus that the airport’s rules and procedures, last revised in 2008, should be reviewed and updated and asked county staff to prepare proposed revisions and a timeline. Commissioners also asked staff to include development of a business plan for the airport as part of the broader planning work tied to the master plan update. The airport director and staff will return with recommended language and a proposed schedule for the updates and the advisory appointments.
Miss Petito (county staff) confirmed to the board that the appointment resolution does not require residency in Flagler County. The board directed staff to finalize advisory appointments and to bring back any proposed rule changes or business‑plan work for board review.
