City of Liberty public works staff on May 19 updated the council on the planned city hall and police building addition, saying the project is in design and aiming for construction completion in 2027.
Sherry McIntyre, the city’s public works director, told the council the team hopes to finish final design by the end of 2025 and will seek a construction manager at-risk contractor this summer with a goal of securing a guaranteed maximum price by late 2025 or early January. McIntyre estimated a roughly 15-month construction schedule but said she was using an 18-month estimate for planning; that timeline places substantial completion in 2027.
Why it matters: the project will house the police department and city services; staff said the police department is also identifying a temporary relocation site during construction.
McIntyre said geotechnical work and other preconstruction services are underway; earlier in the meeting the council approved a contract with Own Inc. for geotechnical investigation not to exceed $25,950. City staff added that the police department is actively searching for a temporary relocation site and that the council will see a recommendation on that soon.
No formal vote was required for the update. Staff said the next steps are to complete design, select a construction manager at risk, finalize guaranteed maximum price negotiations, and schedule construction procurement.
