Colorado Springs — The City Council approved a consolidated service plan for six “Contrarian Airport” metropolitan districts northwest of Drennan Road and East of Marksheffel Road and voted to zone the area with an eye toward placement in Harrison School District 2.
Kevin Walker, city planning director, presented the item and said the districts are adjacent to Peterson Space Force Base and intended to provide coordinated infrastructure and services for new development. The council voted 9-0 on the consolidated service plan after a brief work-session review earlier in the month.
Representatives from Harrison School District 2 urged council to zone the area to the district, saying Harrison 2 has capacity and transportation to serve new students. Corey Arcarese, speaking on behalf of Harrison District 2, said the district operates a reliable transportation fleet, has room for additional students and offers a range of academic and career-technical programs. Student board member Aiden Gallegos also spoke in support, describing the district’s programs and the “D2 promise” that enables students to earn college credits at Pikes Peak State College.
Outcome: Council adopted the consolidated service plan and related zoning on recorded motions; both items passed unanimously. The approvals clear a municipal-government step necessary for establishing metro-district service and coordinating school-district boundary considerations as development proceeds.
