La Paz County proclaims September Falls Prevention Awareness Month

The La Paz County Board of Supervisors adopted Proclamation No. 2025‑20 declaring September 2025 as Falls Prevention Awareness Month. The proclamation, presented on behalf of the Western Arizona Council of Governments (WACOG) Area Agency on Aging, states that falls affect people across ages but exact a particular toll on Arizonans 65 and older and that La Paz County ranks fifth in the state for age‑adjusted unintentional fall hospitalization rate.
The board urged older adults, caregivers, health care providers, first responders and community partners to routinely assess older adults, including veterans and persons with disabilities, for fall risks and to adopt strategies that improve mobility and stability. County community health workers were acknowledged as conducting related programs.
The proclamation was adopted by voice vote; no county funding was approved as part of the proclamation.
