Currituck tourism authority adopts FY25–26 budget, allocates $51,000 for parks project

The Currituck County Tourism Development Authority on reconvening adopted its annual budget for fiscal year 2025–26 and approved $51,000 in funding to finish a parks and recreation project, board members said.

The budget includes previously presented changes and incorporated salary adjustments discussed at the last meeting; the parks project will be funded with a $20,000 grant plus an additional $31,000 approved in this budget, for a total of $51,000. "The budget presented... is in the judgment of this board of commissioners that the expenditures are designed to increase the use of lodging facilities, meeting facilities, recreational facilities, and convention facilities in the county by attracting tourists and business travelers to the county," said Commissioner Jarvis.

Board members reconvened after a reading, a public comment period and a work session. The manager confirmed there were no further changes beyond those already presented. Commissioner Jarvis moved to adopt the budget "as presented at the last meeting and with the changes discussed this evening," and Commissioner Payment seconded the motion. The motion was approved by voice vote with members responding "aye." The meeting then adjourned the Tourism Development Authority.

The adopted budget was described at the meeting as focused on promoting travel and tourism and on containing tourism-related expenditures intended to increase lodging, meeting, recreational and convention use in Currituck County. Apart from the parks and recreation allocation and salary updates, no additional line-item amounts were specified during the reconvened motion and vote.
