At the Aug. 18 public comment period, resident Lorraine Rady of West Jefferson told the council she and neighbors had experienced intermittent power outages and flickering lights and said she was concerned the utility was replacing wiring with lower-quality material — a claim she attributed to a neighbor, not the city. She described repeated air-conditioning failures in her home and said the outages affected family health and food preservation. Rady also raised a separate concern about cold showers at the municipal pool during an evening swim. City staff told the meeting the pools had no known ongoing plan to reduce shower temperatures and suggested the cold shower episode may have been a one-day occurrence; staff added the showers are used infrequently and can take time to warm. During the meeting the deputy clerk said the city could reach out to DTE to investigate the reported outages. The council did not take action beyond offering to follow up and receive staff reports.
