Council declines right of first refusal on two Wayne County tax-foreclosed properties
Summary
City administrators recommended, and the council agreed, not to exercise Trenton’s first right of refusal on two Wayne County tax-foreclosed parcels and to allow those properties to proceed to the county auction in the fall.
City staff asked the Trenton City Council on July 7 to decline exercising the city’s first right of refusal on two Wayne County tax-foreclosed properties located in Trenton so that those parcels can proceed to the county auction.
The two properties are 2353 Vernon (Parcel 5400801044-000) and 2246 Fourth (Parcel 54014010004000). City Administrator Dean recommended the city not exercise its right of refusal and to allow the properties to move to the September/October Wayne County auction. The council moved, supported and recorded the action as unanimously so ordered.
Why it matters: exercising a right of refusal would have required the city to purchase the parcels and assume ownership; staff recommended allowing the county process to continue. The council did not direct staff to further investigate purchase options.
Implementation notes: staff will allow the county to complete its auction process; the city offered no additional action at the July 7 meeting.
