Trenton City Council voted unanimously on July 21 to extend the city’s natural gas supply contract with Constellation for four years at a fixed rate of $0.389 per therm, covering November 2025 through October 2029.
The extension was presented by Controller Jill Cooper as a budget‑stability measure that protects the city against near‑term market volatility in natural‑gas prices. Cooper said the rate was competitive at the time it was checked and noted the quoted price reflected market conditions as of the preceding Thursday and could change.
Cooper told council the current Constellation contract expires Oct. 31, 2025, and that locking in a multi‑year fixed rate would produce predictable energy costs for the city. Council moved, supported and recorded the extension without further discussion.
