Trenton council approves reappointments, receives FY2026 budget timetable and authorizes $2.45M in disbursements

The Trenton City Council on Jan. 6 reappointed David Heatherly to the Traffic Safety Commission and Lonnie Fredericks to the Zoning Board of Appeals, received and placed on file budget amendments from the Third District Court, accepted a proposed fiscal year 2026 budget timeline from City Controller Miss Cooper, and authorized disbursements totaling $2,448,490.94.
Mayor Rezeppa opened the business session by asking the clerk to call the roll before the council unanimously approved the minutes from the Dec. 16, 2024 meeting. Later, the mayor presented his proposed reappointments; the council approved both reappointments with a roll-call vote that recorded one abstention. Councilwoman Vaughn Crooks moved to receive and place on file the Third District Court's budget amendments for February 2024, and the council approved that filing unanimously.
City Controller Miss Cooper presented a proposed schedule for the FY2026 budget process: budget packets to departments on Jan. 21; departments to return requests by Feb. 7; mayor and administration meetings March 3–14; proposed budget to council by April 7; and a target to finalize the budget at the May 19 meeting. Miss Cooper asked council members to provide their availability for post-April 7 budget meetings to the city administrator.
Council members then approved the city's authorized disbursements for Jan. 6, 2025 in the amount of $2,448,490.94 and received the Cultural Commission minutes (Nov. 27, 2024), Downtown Development Authority minutes (Nov. 14, 2024) and the Fire Department monthly report for November 2024, all placed on file. The council also discussed upcoming events and administrative matters, including a State of the City awards banquet scheduled for Feb. 13 and a City Hall closure for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20; the next council meeting was set for Jan. 21.
All routine motions reported in the meeting—minute approval, filings, budget schedule receipt, disbursement authorization and reports placed on file—were adopted without recorded opposition. Public comment produced no speakers, and the council adjourned at 7:18 p.m.
