Trenton council awards Rotary Park phase 2 construction contract to Anglin Civil

Parks and Recreation Director Mr. Beaker told the Trenton City Council on Jan. 6 that the city should accept Anglin Civil's bid and proceed with Phase 2 construction at Rotary Park, removing the south playground portion from this stage and replacing it at a later date.

The recommendation followed a formal bidding process overseen by the parks department and the city engineer, which produced three proposals from Anglin Civil, Charter Excavating and MK Construction. "Anglin Civil's bid was not only comprehensive, meeting all of the project's requirements, but also significantly more cost effective," Mr. Beaker said, and the council voted unanimously to move forward.

Council members asked whether Anglin Civil was a local firm and whether it had the bandwidth for the job. Councilman Caboet said he had not seen the company locally and wanted assurance about its local presence. Mr. Beaker replied that the city engineer, identified in the discussion as Sohail, and his team had checked references and were satisfied. "Speaking with Sohail and his company, they've done some background checks on them and ... we're able to find some good [references]," Mr. Beaker said.

The council's approval excludes the south playground portion from the current award; Mr. Beaker said the playground will be replaced at a later date. No cost breakdown or contract amount was stated during the discussion. The motion to award the contract was moved and supported; the council approved it unanimously.

The vote concludes the formal procurement step so the city can proceed with contract execution and scheduling for Phase 2 work. The council did not set a specific construction start date during the meeting.
