Wayne County park millage awards Trenton $61,500 for tot‑lot replacements; city accepts equipment bid

The Trenton City Council on June 2 accepted a $61,500 Wayne County Parks millage grant to replace aging playsets at the Sycamore and Cambridge tot lots and approved purchase of two new play structures.
Parks and Recreation Director Tim (last name not provided) said the award, coordinated through Commissioner Palamara’s office and Wayne County Parks, will fund replacement of the deteriorated play platforms and stairs at both sites; he noted the swings at those parks are in acceptable condition and will remain. Director Tim told council replacing the older components would approach the cost of full replacement because of obsolescence.
Council then accepted a vendor quote from We Build Fun Miracle for both structures installed at a combined price of $59,938.12. Director Tim said installation is expected in late summer or early fall and that a deposit will be required to schedule the work. The motion to accept the grant and to proceed with the purchase was moved, seconded and approved unanimously.
Council members asked about park usage and local outreach; the director said the city receives frequent resident reports and that staff includes a certified playground inspector who monitors conditions.
