At the June 9 meeting council authorized staff to study and draft legislation aimed at addressing excessive vehicle noise — specifically modified exhaust systems and prolonged engine revving — and to identify the equipment and enforcement resources officers would need.
City Administrator Thomas Lee told council the current noise code is a decibel‑based standard that measures both sound level and duration, but residents have complained about intermittent but disruptive vehicle exhaust noise and revving. Lee said staff would return with draft code changes and with an assessment of enforcement tools and training needs.
Council member Don Dodwell moved the request; council member May seconded. The motion passed by voice vote. Staff said the action is a request to draft legislation and does not itself change the code; any proposed ordinance will return to council for public notice and a vote.
