Wildwood economic‑development staff told the committee on July 22 that the Zaxby’s restaurant chain has placed the city “on the radar” for regional expansion and that Community America Credit Union is evaluating whether to reopen the former Electro Savings branch at 16500 Manchester Road.
Staff said Zaxby’s franchise requirements include an experienced multi‑unit operator able to develop a minimum of six stores in the region and that the company is considering visibility near Highway 109 and Route 100. Staff cautioned that site selection depends on operators and market conditions; one council member noted franchise recruitment typically takes time and depends on workforce and access.
Separately, staff said Community America Credit Union purchased the former Electro Savings properties and is reviewing whether to reopen sites. The credit union has asked about prominent signage visible from Route 100, but staff noted direct signage in the state right‑of‑way would require Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) approval and likely a Board of Adjustment variance if sign placement is off the existing site frontage.
Committee members discussed options such as shared monument signs for a business cluster, rebuilding an existing monument sign location, or a cooperative sign with an adjacent property owner, but they also cautioned about over‑signing and how to direct customers safely from Route 100 to businesses set back from the highway.
Paula and staff said they will continue outreach to potential franchisees and to Community America Credit Union and will return to the committee if formal applications or variance requests are filed.
