Blue Springs planning commission tables rezoning for Rampage Athletics after neighbor concerns

The Blue Springs Planning Commission on June 14 voted to table a rezoning request for 2001 Southwest Ninth Street that would have changed the property from MF-14 (moderate-density multifamily) to General Business to allow Rampage Athletics to operate evenings inside a church-owned gym. Chantelle Fry, associate planner for the city of Blue Springs, told commissioners the property is one 1.74-acre parcel and that the request is “strictly a rezoning from the MF-14 to the General Business.” Fry said there are no site modifications or new construction proposed as part of this application. The rezoning was filed by Michael Scott, pastor at Saint Peter United Methodist Church, who told the commission the church bought the property about three years ago and has partnered with Rampage to allow evening youth programming in the existing gym. “We are trying to do the right thing and get it rezoned to the proper zoning so that we can operate as necessary,” Scott said.
